Community Forums At Ebert Elementary School Tuesday, Feb. 10

The Northeast Area Superintendent’s office will hold two forums at Ebert Elementary School on Tuesday, Feb. 10 to gather community feedback around a proposal to consolidate Ebert’s enrollment with three nearby schools.

The forums will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. at the school, 410 Park Ave. West, near downtown Denver. A Spanish translator will be available.

Comments from the forum will be summarized for the Board of Education, which will ultimately decide on the plan. Community members, parents, Ebert staff and staff from nearby elementary schools all invited. Speakers should choose one of the two forums; it is not necessary to attend both.

Ebert serves 47 students who live in the school’s existing boundary area. Another 60 or so students in the district’s program for homeless students are also served at Ebert.

The proposal for consolidating Ebert’s enrollment will be presented formally to the Board of Education on Thursday, Feb. 5. If approved, it would mean Ebert students would be reassigned to Gilpin, Whittier or Wyman elementary school as their neighborhood school beginning with the 2004-2005 school year. The program serving the homeless population would move to Gilpin Elementary School.

The reassignment of Ebert students would allow the Polaris Program at Crofton Elementary School, which is looking for room to expand, to move to Ebert for the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year.
