Hill Middle School Health Fair Friday, Feb. 13

Medical and graduate nursing students from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center will staff the first annual Hill Middle School Health Fair on Friday, Feb. 13 from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. All eighth-grade students will attend the fair.

The purpose of the fair is to educate and reinforce general health and wellness for growing adolescents. The focus of health-screening component is self-awareness. Students will gain a better understanding of their own level of personal health and wellness through experiencing a short non-invasive health screening.

This confidential screening will include height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, vision, flexibility, heart rate/fitness test and a screening for scoliosis (curvature of the spine). In addition, students will be offered a peek into the world of the physician and nurse as they learn how the information from a general health exam is used.

Health and wellness for the growing adolescent requires active education about personal choice and risk. During the second component of the Health Fair, students will rotate in groups through six learning centers. Students will walk away from this experience with a better idea of the personal impact of their choices. The learning centers are nutrition and fitness, smoking, sexuality, drugs and alcohol, dental care and abuse.

Hill Middle School is located at 451 Clermont St. The telephone number is 303-399-0254, or visit the school web page at www.hill.denver.k12.co.us.
