The March 2004 edition of “DPS Today,” the monthly television show about issues and progress in Denver Public Schools, features an in-depth look at the progress at Cole Middle School and a discussion on the district’s ongoing efforts to provide character education.
Cole Middle School is being watched carefully this year as it seeks to make gains in academic achievement and avoid sanctions under the state’s accountability system. The school is also the center of attention as the site of weekly tutoring sessions, where student and volunteer participation has been high.
Character Education is in full swing in Denver Public Schools, thanks to a combination of grants from the U.S. Department of Education and the Rose Community Foundation.
Guests for the March edition of “DPS Today” include:
- Nicole Veltze, principal, Cole Middle School
- Tashmeisha Mitchell, teacher, Cole Middle School
- Charles Elbot, director, Office of Educating for Character
- Janice Spearman, principal Columbine Elementary School
The show can be seen every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 a.m. and every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. throughout the month of March. The show is carried on Denver 8 cable and is hosted by News 4 reporter Anna Alejo.
