North High School junior Elizabeth Nevarez will be honored at a luncheon Wednesday, March 3 at the Goodwill Industries Annual Celebration Luncheon. The event will be held in the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Denver.
Elizabeth is being honored, along with her mentor, as the mentor/mentee of the year. Elizabeth was matched up with mentor Karen Gonzales three years ago when she was in Craig Whitehead’s computer technology class, which included a school-to-career component.
For the past three years, Karen and Elizabeth have met each week at North High School through Goodwill’s School To Work program. Karen helps Elizabeth with school, college planning and applications, job searches and volunteer opportunities.
Goodwill’s School To Work program teaches every Monday and Friday in North High School business classes and prepares over 200 North High School students for success in the career and college worlds. The program serves over 5,000 students every school year through partnerships with 17 high schools and two middle schools.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please call Erin, Community Relations Manager for Goodwill Youth Services, 303-650-7733.
The Donald R. Seawall Ballroom is located at 1245 Champa St.
