| From 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 (tomorrow), Bill Slotnik, executive director, and Maribeth Smith of the Community Training and Assistance Center of Boston (CTAC) will brief the media on findings from the four-year study of the Pay for Performance Pilot. There will be a 30 minute presentation by CTAC on the report’s findings followed by questions from the media. The briefing will be at the Denver Public Schools administration building, 900 Grant St.
The Pay for Performance Pilot was a four-year, collaborative effort of Denver Public Schools and the Denver Classroom Teachers Association to investigate the interrelated issues of student achievement, teaching processes and teacher compensation. The project has generated national and international attention.
CTAC was retained by both parties to conduct a rigorous study of the pilot, which grew out of an impasse between DPS and DCTA in 1999. Insights from the pilot have been used by the DPS-DCTA Joint Task Force on Teacher Compensation to create a comprehensive compensation system that will be voted on by both parties in March 2004.
The findings will be shared during a special Board of Education meeting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the Sheraton Four Points, 1475 S. Colorado Blvd., for teachers, administrators, community business leaders and others who have been following the pilot. The pilot involved 16 schools, nearly 650 teachers and more than 11,000 students over its four years.
