“100” Will Have Tons Of Meaning At Lowry Elementary School Monday, Feb. 2

Kindergarten students at Lowry Elementary School will get up close and personal with the number “100” on Monday, Feb. 2 as the young learners mark the 100th day of learning this school year.

“Our activities will be taking place all day in my classroom,” says kindergarten teacher Peggy Moritz. “This is such a very special day for our young learners. We truly celebrate the past 100 days that we have spent together learning, playing and enjoying each other!”

On Tuesday, students will enter school doors through a giant "100” sign, pin on special hundred-day badges and get ready for the final 100 count down (students have been using a “100” chart count down during Everyday Math activities since the very first day of school in August).

Students will also write 100 hundred wishes during Writing Workshop; make "topsy-turvy books" about 50 hot things/50 cold things, 50 huge things/50 tiny things. They will draw 100 spots on a giant paper Dalmatian and 100 spots on a very tall paper giraffe during art. They will learn about healthy snacks in science and make a trail mix using 10 groups of 10 different food items (cereal, raisins, fruit pieces, etc.). Students will read stories about “100” during literacy read-aloud activities and do 10 groups of 10 different physical exercises during recess (jumping jacks, touching toes, etc.)

In addition, students will create collages using 10 different kinds of dried beans, sort and count 100 different objects and shapes in mathematics, and learn to say the numeral 100 in many different languages.

For more information, please call Lowry Elementary School at 303-340-0179. The school is located at 8001 E. Cedar Ave.
