| Leslie Moore, Director of Athletics, announced today that the varsity boys’ basketball game originally scheduled for tonight between North and Abraham Lincoln high schools will be postponed until Saturday (Jan. 24) and moved to Manual High School. The game is scheduled for 9 a.m. Fans are welcome. Tickets are $5.
“I have talked with principals and coaches from both teams,” said Moore, “and I feel very comfortable that this game will reveal the ability of both schools - including players, coaches and fans - to demonstrate a high level of good sportsmanship.”
Neutral sites are commonly used in the Denver Prep League when rival teams match up, Moore said. In fact, she said, Manual High School’s larger seating capacity will allow more fans to observe the talents of two rising teams and two highly-regarded players.
A game between the same two teams on Tuesday was suspended in the fourth quarter following an altercation between players. On Wednesday, Moore declared that game a double forfeiture. One player also served a one-game suspension for his actions during the Tuesday night contest.
“I know that coaches and players have been reflecting a great deal on what happened earlier this week,” said Moore. “There is a desire now to prove that the game earlier this week was an isolated incident that in no way reflects the ability of both teams to compete at a high level of sportsmanship and character.”
NOTE - The varsity girls’ basketball game between Abraham Lincoln and North high schools originally scheduled for 7 p.m. today (Friday, Jan. 23) at Abraham Lincoln High School has been rescheduled to 5:30 p.m. today at the same location.
Manual High School is located at 1700 E. 28th Ave. For more information, call the Public Information Office, 720-423-3414. |
