West High School Students To Visit With Queen Noor

Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, the first American-born queen of an Arab country, will speak to West High School students Tuesday, Jan. 20. Although she is royalty, her life has not always been a fairy tale. She has overcome numerous obstacles and played a major role in promoting international exchange and understanding of Middle Eastern politics, Arab-Western relations, humanitarian issues and conflict prevention.

More than 300 students will hear about her life experiences and several will have the opportunity to ask her questions. She is in town to speak at 7 p.m. at the Auditorium Theatre as part of the KeyBank Denver Distinguished Lecture Series, a program of Junior Achievement.

Her Majesty Queen Noor was born Lisa Najeeb Halaby on August 23, 1951, to an Arab-American family distinguished for its public service. After receiving a B.A. in Architecture and Urban Planning from Princeton University in 1974, Queen Noor worked on international urban planning and design projects in Australia, Iran, the United States, and the Arab World. Their Majesties, King Hussein and Queen Noor, were married on June 15, 1978. King Hussein passed away in 1999. Queen Noor has recently authored a book which is receiving international recognition.
