“DPS Today” Launches On Denver 8 Thursday, Jan. 15

“DPS Today” begins airing five days a week on Denver 8 TV on Thursday, Jan. 15. The half-hour show will air at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and at 8:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The show, hosted by News 4 reporter Anna Alejo, is designed to take an in-depth look at the major events, issues and progress in Denver Public Schools.

The first program focuses on the district’s literacy program and includes as guests Susana Cordova, Director of Literacy, and Robert Woodson, principal of Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary School. Maxwell’s ranking on the State Accountability Ratings recently climbed from “low” to “average.”

Each program will be repeated over an entire month; a new show will begin Feb. 2 (the show does not air on Mondays). The program will also be repeated on Channel 22, the Denver cable channel that’s designated to Denver Public Schools.

“It’s a pleasure to work with the award-winning Denver 8 production team,” said Mark Stevens, Director of Public Information for Denver Public Schools. “This program is a direct reflection of the increased level of partnership between the city and the school district. We sincerely thank Mayor John Hickenlooper and the city staff for making this possible.”

Denver 8 TV, the official television station for the City and County of Denver, was recognized as a national leader in municipal television programming and given the prestigious Excellence in Government Programming Award by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) during the group’s annual conference last September.
