| George Washington High School student Antoinette Bronesky has been named the first alternate selected to represent Colorado in the United States Senate Youth Program sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. In the event that one of the two selected state delegates is unable to attend, Bronesky will have the opportunity to replace that delegate.
Bronesky is a senior with a 4.9 grade point average who plans to attend Notre Dame, Boston College or Holy Cross. She’s Co-All Student Body President on the Student Council, Key Club President, captain of the swimming and lacrosse teams, member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and a representative on state Student Council. Bronesky is eyeing a career in finance or banking, specifically thinking about continuing the financial education of young people.
She is also co-chair of the Young Americans Bank Board (2002-2003), volunteer at the Young Americans Center for Financial Education, Youth Advisory Board member (2000-2001), Economics of Construction Board (2002-2003), Organizer of a Teach Children to Save Day event at Carson Elementary (2003), presenter at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers 2003 Conference, and Young Americans Bank Employee (New Accounts Representative).
The annual United States Senate Youth Program was established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution. The next gathering will be held in Washington, D.C., from Feb. 28 to March 6, 2004. Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Students will visit Capitol Hill, the White House, Supreme Court, Pentagon and State Department and will each be awarded a $5,000 College scholarship for undergraduate studies.
The William Randolph Hearst Foundation pays all expenses for the Washington Week, including transportation, hotel accommodations and meals.
George Washington High School is located at 655 S. Monaco St. The school’s telephone number is 303-394-8600.
