| PlatteForum, a one-of-a-kind arts center that connects art and education and youth, is proud to announce “Special Places / Personal Spaces” - an exuberant and colorful holiday installation by December’s Creative Resident and internationally known textile artist Terrie Hancock Mangat.
Ms. Mangat has been credited with pioneering and spreading the use of embellishment on contemporary quilts for the last 30 years. One of her quilts was named one of the top 100 American Quilts of the 20th Century. In this exhibition, Ms. Mangat explores the theme of childhood personal spaces with 30 students from Remington Elementary School. Together they have created tent-likes structures with recycled materials such as beads, pipe cleaners, candy wrappers, milk cartons, old fabric, Christmas lights and toys. In addition, Ms Mangat has created mixed media pieces depicting the students and their work.
The opening reception of the exhibition will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at PlatteForum, 1610 Little Raven St., Suite 125, at the foot of the Millennium Bridge in lower downtown Denver.
This holiday installation is a must-see for friends and family alike. The exhibition continues through Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m. (closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1).
