Denver SCORES will make a party out of poetry for the fifth year in a row. Denver SCORES is the only program in Denver that offers soccer to urban youth, ages 8 through 12, while teaching kids to express themselves through creative writing. The Poetry Slam! is the culminating event of the fall season. SCORES students perform original poems they have been writing all semester in SCORES writing classes. A team of “celebrity” judges will score the performances and the children will receive awards at the end of the program.
Denver SCORES is a national model for youth development, targeting girls and boys in urban neighborhoods that offer few, if any, recreational programs. Denver SCORES focuses on kids who are at-risk of academic failure. Denver SCORES is one of a growing number of SCORES program across the country.
