Lake Middle School’s “BEAT CSAP” Takes Off Again

Lake Middle School has kicked off the second annual BEAT CSAP (Better, Educated, Assessment, Tactics) after-school program.

“BEAT CSAP is an exciting program that students participate in developing and enhancing test-taking strategies, but most importantly improving self-confidence,” says Lake Middle School Mathematics Coach Alex Magana.

Mentors work with small groups of students in a round-table discussion groups and discuss questions related to CSAP (Colorado Student Assessment Program).

Students focus in areas where they need help. Snacks and incentives are provided to create a relaxed atmosphere while students, with the aid of mentors, discover test-taking strategies.

The program is results oriented. Each student receives a special invitation and is asked to attend. All students are welcomed to participate in the program as long as each student and parent signs a contract agreeing to commit to the program.

Over 50 students are currently participating in the program, guided by 10 mentors. The group meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Each group meets in one of the mentors’ classrooms. For example, a student will visit with one mentor for reading work on Tuesday and the other mentor for mathematics on Thursday.

Lake Middle School is located at 1820 Lowell Blvd. The school’s telephone number is 303-575-4260.
