Rosedale Elementary School Thanks Community Supporters

Rosedale Elementary School principal Khoa Vu Nguyen today issued the following in thanks to the school’s many supporters in the community:

“Rosedale Elementary has had a very successful year thus far. Our success could not have been achieved without the generous support of our community; specifically from our neighborhood King Soopers, KeyBank of Denver, Piccolo’s Family Restaurant, Wild Oats, and Kiwanis Club of Southwest Denver.

On August 14, 2003, we received school supplies, backpacks, calculators and more from the Kiwanis Club of Southwest Denver. Our students enjoyed the brand new school supplies on their first days of school.

The Holiday Season can be a difficult time for families. Often, children’s wants are unable to be met by their families. King Soopers recognized this dilemma and offered a solution with ‘King Soopers Adopt-a-School Holiday gifts.’ Last year was a great success; therefore King Soopers adopted Rosedale again. Each employee of King Soopers adopts a student and purchases a gift of $20.00 or less from the students’ wish list. The Friday before holiday intermission the students will receive their gifts. Many of the students who would receive little or nothing during the holidays are able to have at least one wish come true with this program. Rosedale appreciates the kindness and generosity of King Soopers employees!

Rosedale would also like to recognize KeyBank of Denver for their generous contribution towards our fifth-graders’ Young AmeriTowne experience. Young AmeriTowne is an interactive program that teaches students how a town functions from a multi-systemic-perspective, and community/business system enterprise. Our fifth grade class is currently preparing for Young AmeriTowne and students are enjoying themselves! This incredible experience would not have been possible if it were not for the generous support from KeyBank of Denver!

In an effort to recognize the positive accomplishments demonstrated by our students, Rosedale has been holding monthly assemblies. The assemblies honor students demonstrating perfect attendance, each month’s Character Education Trait, and literacy achievements such as the Million Words campaign and reading and writing contests.

Being recognized in front of their peers for such accomplishments would be rewarding in and of itself, but due to the generosity of our local Piccolo’s Restaurant, students receive an extra reward. Dave Huter, manager of Piccolo’s, is an advocate for the education of our students and Denver Public Schools, and is eager to assist Rosedale. Each month, recognized students receive a free family size pizza redeemable at Piccolo’s. This reward not only recognizes our students, but also their families. Without family support, these achievements would not be possible. Rosedale graciously thanks Dave Huter and Piccolo’s.

Our Rosedale students were also the fortunate recipients of complementary books supplied by the Fund for Colorado’s Future. Each Rosedale student will receive five new children’s literature books throughout the year. What a wonderful boost for our Literacy Program and our guests to read one Million words. Thank you, Fund for Colorado’s Future.

Last, but not least, we thank Wild Oats and King Soopers for making possible Rosedale’s October 16 Book Fair a successful event for our community. This year, 75 families attended Family Night – 25 percent more than last year! PTSA and the entire Rosedale Community are proud to welcome 18 new families. The energy, enthusiasm and culture they share with our classrooms and committees are a wonderful “boost” to our school marketing.

We at Rosedale have been very pleased with our fall semester and hope for continued success this spring. Our success could not have been achieved without the support of our local community and Rosedale PTSA! We deeply appreciate your efforts and feel blessed to have such dear friends!

As Margaret Mead said:
‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ ”

Rosedale Elementary School is located at 2330 S. Sherman St. The school’s telephone number is 303-744-2381.
