The Colorado Association of Partners in Education (CAPE) will honor eight former teachers at Swansea Elementary School at a luncheon on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Brown Palace Hotel. Stephanie Riggs of Channel 4 (KCNC-TV) will emcee the event.
CAPE honors one individual, one group and one business volunteer from each of Colorado's seven congressional districts. These individuals are honored for "unique" contributions that impact student achievement, attitudes and behaviors. The retired Swansea teachers have been selected to receive the group award for Congressional District 1.
Each of the eight retired teachers taught at Swansea for an average of over 20 years. Last year, all eight retired teachers returned to Swansea Elementary to volunteer by tutoring children in reading. Their award is well deserved, as their care and dedication enhance student achievement as well as student self-esteem.
The eight retired teachers being honored are Joanne Carden, Ida Casagranda, Virginia Deal, Mary Happe, Virginia Heddens, Mary Jo Leahy, Jeneva McQueary and Charlotte Wolf.
Swansea Elementary School is located at 4650 Columbine St. The school's telephone number is 303-296-8429.
