From 7:30-9 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 Sharon Robinson, principal of Emily Griffith Opportunity School (EGOS), and colleague Essie Garrett will sit on the roof of the school (at the Colfax, Glenarm and 12th St. intersections).
The two had promised to sit on a billboard if $25,000 was not raised for student scholarships from the 310-mile run - From the Plains to the Rockies - that ultra runner Essie Garrett and her long-time co-runner Tonya Ciarochi completed July 14.
The billboard sitting proved to be too costly given the insurance required, so they will sit on the roof instead in an effort to raise the remaining $3,000.
Contributions can be sent to or dropped off at the Emily Griffith Foundation, 1250 Welton St., Denver, CO 80204.
The run, tracing the journey of the school’s founder Emily Griffith, fell just $3,000 short of the goal. Garrett and Ciarochi, two incredible 21st century pioneer women who have raised over $1,000,000 for charities, completed the run in boots while pulling a covered wagon in 90+ degree temperatures, sometimes battling 80-mile-per-hour winds and electrical storms.
In today’s economic climate, EGOS is seeing a much larger number of its 15,000 students needing financial assistance, with need per student greater than ever. The Emily Griffith Foundation awarded over $103,000 in scholarships last year. The scholarships benefited 560 students. Money from the ultra run will make future scholarships possible. EGOS, through its 350 course offerings, has been providing quality adult education for 87 years.
EGOS is located at 1250 Welton St. For information about scholarships or how to donate, contact the Emily Griffith Foundation at 303-575-4722. |
