Denver Schools To Remember 9/11 Anniversary

To commemorate the second anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Newlon Elementary School will host “Read with a Hero Day” at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. State Representative Jerry Frangas will lead the opening ceremony with a flag presentation. Joining him will be District 4 Police Captain Rudy Sandoval along with several officers and firefighters.

The commemoration idea came about through a New Business Item passed by 10,000 delegates at the National Education Association’s 2003 Representative Assembly. The New Business Item invites local heroes such as education personnel, police officers, fire and rescue workers, and others who protect our lives and property, to read with students.

Newlon Elementary School is located at 361 Vrain St. For information, contact the school at 303-934-2441.
