State Representative Mike Cerbo, House District 2, spent the morning at Fairview Elementary School today visiting with Principal Norma Giron and touring the school and classrooms.
The visit was prompted by Representative Cerbo, who contacted Giron after reading about Fairview’s improved test scores. He wanted to find out what made the difference and what he, as a state representative, could do to help represent this community. He was especially interested in the impact and success of Fairview’s Early Childhood Education program and parent home visitation program. As part of that program, Fairview’s teachers make visits to the student’s homes throughout the year for parent conferences and learn about the parent/child home life. This program results in improved communication between parents and teachers and makes the parents feel more welcome. Each teacher makes a minimum of 10 visits per semester.
Representative Cerbo hopes his visit “will help let the community know that Fairview is doing great things and moving in a positive direction.” He believes that “visiting Fairview and other schools like Fairview will help him make better decisions about education in the House.”
“It is outstanding that Representative Cerbo contacted me to visit Fairview and then followed through with a full morning tour of the school, including a visit to every classroom,” said Giron.
Representative Cerbo was accompanied by members of his staff and representatives from the media, including Channel 7 and Univision.
