Assistance League of Denver® (ALD), a chapter of National Assistance League®, welcomes you from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 to see Operation School Bell in action.
Operation School Bell, the national philanthropic project of the organization, provides children in need with new school clothes, including a warm winter jacket and a voucher for new shoes. The Mile High Auxiliary of ALD also provides a health kit and an age-appropriate book. Each child gets to choose their own clothing and book under the guidance of an ALD volunteer.
Children are referred by their school social worker. The volunteers at Operation School Bell believe that the project enhances self-esteem, promotes learning and encourages regular school attendance for the recipients.
“Last year, our volunteers clothed over 2200 students at a cost of under $70.00 per child,” said Joan Stringfield, Chairman of Operation School Bell. “We are proud of the fact that we have provided this service for 26 straight years.”
The ALD facility is located at 1331 E. Colfax Ave. Volunteers from the Denver chapter are celebrating the 26th anniversary of this community service. Donations may be sent to: Assistance League of Denver, 1400 Josephine Street, Denver, CO 80206.
