Faculty and staff at Fairview Elementary School will stage a parade through the Sun Valley neighborhood Friday afternoon (today, Aug. 15) in hopes of making sure all students and parents know that school starts Monday, Aug. 18.
The parade will kick-off at 3 p.m. from the school, 2715 W. 11th Ave. The event is expected to last about a half-hour.
During the parade, Fairview staff will hand out fliers to families, use a megaphone to announce the school year start date and greet families in the neighborhood. Most of the parade participants will walk; principal Norma Giron will drive a large pick-up truck to lead the way. Parents and families will be invited to join the parade as it goes.
“This is a ‘get excited about school’ parade,” said fifth-grade teacher Don Diehl. “We really want all students at Fairview on opening day.”
When the school starts on Monday, Fairview will also invite parents to attend the first 30 minutes of the school day and offer juice and donuts as a way of celebrating the school year’s launch.
