The Denver Public Schools Foundation announced today that $310,000 was raised as a result of the City of Denver’s recent inaugural activities. Mayor John Hickenlooper provided the unique opportunity for the Foundation to raise funds to cover the costs of the inauguration and retain all excess money. The event expenses totaled approximately $37,500 - below the original budget estimate of $50,000. The DPS Foundation retained net proceeds of $272,500.
Comcast, Denver’s largest cable company, was the lead sponsor with a contribution of $50,000. "We thought the mayor's idea of supporting the DPS Foundation through the inaugural activities was terrific," said Mary White, Senior Vice President of Comcast Cable. "We were proud to support the community celebrations and at the same time help schools in Denver."
“Creative efforts such as this herald a new partnership between the government and corporate worlds to benefit the students in Denver Public Schools. We look forward to building on this affiliation,” said Bruce Benson, DPS Foundation Chair.
“By virtually any measure, the partnership that was established between Mayor Hickenlooper and the DPS Foundation was a phenomenal success. Our sincere appreciation to the Mayor for focusing the community’s attention on the needs of our students, especially as we begin a new school year,” said Cole Finegan, DPS Foundation Vice Chair.
The Denver Public Schools Foundation is Colorado’s largest public K-12 educational foundation. The Foundation’s focus is to fund the priorities of Denver Public Schools. The Foundation also accepts donor-designated gifts for specific schools or programs.
