On the heels of their “Best Drama” win at the recent DAFFY Festival, the career-focused Digital Film Production Program will hold a “best of the year” presentation at the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli on Wednesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 at the door. The film center is located at 900 Auraria Parkway.
This year’s featured projects include films from Career Education Center (CEC) students senior Laura Peniche and juniors Charlie Hanson and Daniel Inkeles. Student filmmakers in the Digital Film Production program range in ages from 15-18 and attend CEC from high schools throughout Denver Public Schools and surrounding school districts.
The goal of Digital Film Production (DFP) is to support a student’s interest in the film and video production industry to providing a workplace-like atmosphere, state-of-the-art technology and professional mentoring.
DFP is a four-semester, production-oriented program emphasizing basic filmmaking theory and technique through scripting, pre-production planning, studio and location production, digital non-linear postproduction, graphics, animation and exhibition. The course is designed to give students the basic technical, artistic and academic skills necessary to continue with advanced professional instruction or to work as an entry-level production crewmember.
The Career Education Center is Denver Public Schools’ only comprehensive career and technical education magnet school. Located at 2650 Eliot Street, CEC is open to all ninth through twelfth grade students in the metro Denver area.
Twenty-two career programs are represented at CEC and over 800 students are currently exploring their career options in a part time program while attending their own high school for academic classes. Transportation is available from other Denver high schools. Students who are enrolled in the full-time program begin taking college classes during their junior year.
