Six Junior ROTC Students Will Represent DPS At Rocky Mountain Youth Leadership Conference

Six Junior ROTC members from East High School and Abraham Lincoln High School have been selected to attend the Rocky Mountain Youth Leadership Conference.

The five students from East High School are Marie Louise Vaughn, Kevin Matthews, Julian Howery, Rob Granger and Kyle Mize. The Abraham Lincoln student is Fabian A. Acosta.

The conference, which is sponsored by the Military Order of the World Wars, will be held at the University of Southern Colorado July 14 -18. The 80-90 students invited to the conference will get the opportunity to interact with active and retired generals, former POWs, Medal of Honor winners and academic and industry leaders.

Working in seminar groups, students will discuss and seek resolutions for contemporary regional and national issues.

The Military Order of the World Wars runs more than 80 conferences annually around the nation. The Rocky Mountain Conference is in its twelfth year. Many attendees enroll in military academies; nearly all attend four-year colleges. These students' expenses are underwritten by the Denver Chapter of MOWW and National Sojourners Denver-Fitzsimmons Chapter 37.

East High School’s cadets are expected to return to school and apply leadership lessons for the smooth running of the cadet corps as it expands into more community service learning and seeks greater accomplishments within the Denver Brigade.
