Learning For Life Leadership Award Goes To Future Firefighter At CEC

Pete Hergenreter, the principal of the Career Education Center (CEC) of Denver Public Schools, is proud to announce the presentation of the prestigious Boy Scouts Learning for Life Leadership Award to John Panter, a full-time CEC Scholar and Fire Science student.

Panter demonstrated exceptional dedication and gave outstanding leadership to his peers in the Fire Science program, CEC Student Council member and DPS Student Board member, as well as the Boy Scouts. Panter is a sophomore who intends to join the Denver Fire Department after his graduation. He is also taking business classes at the Community College of Denver as he would like to own his own business some day.

CEC, located near downtown Denver, is specially designed to help high school students explore career areas. Students with a desire to attend college or technical schools are challenged to develop career skills while still in high school, either part-time with attending their home high school for academic classes or full time in the Scholars’ Program.

With 22 career programs to choose from, students are able to learn workplace skills and ethics that will last them a lifetime. Young people from all DPS high schools, private schools, other public school districts and home schooling environments are invited to visit the web site www.dosomethingreal.com and explore all there is to do at CEC. Or, call Merrilee Thomas, at 303-964-3015, to arrange a tour of the facility.

For further information please contact Babette Hudson, Fire Science Assistant Instructor, 303-964-3027 or Diane Cherry, Marketing Coordinator, 303-964-3059 or 303-758-1729.
