Proposed 2003-2004 School Year Budget Available On Line

The Denver Public Schools’ budget office has posted the district’s proposed 2003-2004 school year budget on line at budgetandfinance.dpsk12.org. Any individual without personal web access may use a computer in the district’s Welcome Center in the administration building at 900 Grant St. or at a branch of the Denver Public Library.

Last week, the Board of Education was formally presented with the proposed $517.6 million operating budget for the 2003-2004 school year, including $30 million in reductions from the current spending plan in order to make ends meet.

The balanced budget includes many proposed changes such as streamlining summer school, starting tuition for some Early Childhood Education students and increasing class sizes at the secondary level.

The Board is inviting public comment at the June 5 (7 p.m.) public hearing – district staff, parents and all community members may call 720-423-3211 by 4 p.m. on that day to sign up to speak. The Board plans final adoption of the budget June 19.
