Clowns, decorated bicycles, BMX demos, parade, ringmaster and other fun filled activities will be featured at a circus in Denver next month to make up for the May 10 canceled event due to snow. The circus will be held at the REI flagship store from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday June 7. The REI flagship store is located at 1416 Platte St.
“This free family fun day is to promote safety helmets to prevent head injuries and encourage safe cycling,” said Lynn Chambers, Executive Director of the Cycle Safety Circus for Kids.
Children will be fitted with helmets by Denver Health Paramedics, and helmets will be available at a low-cost donation. Children are invited to decorate their bikes and bring them along for the Decorated Bike Competition.
“Over the past two years the circuses have proven so successful that this year we are partnering with Denver Public Schools for the first time, and again with Denver Health & REI,” said Chambers.
The circus believes it is imperative that safe cycling and helmet use be encouraged to keep children fit and healthy so they enjoy leisure, have fun in an environmentally friendly way, and keep themselves safe and out of emergency rooms. A Cycle Education Kit with fun safety activity sheets will be given to all young attendees. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in all sorts of games and activities, including the Denver Police Department’s Safety Village.
The Colorado Department of Transportation stage will be featured as the focal point of entertainment and activities, with the Ringmaster as Master of Ceremonies.
Other grantors and sponsors of the event include Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., Denver Foundation, REI, KOSI 101, Starbucks, City and County of Denver, and Phil Long Community Trust. Thanks to El Dorado Water Company, Vitamin Cottage, Barnes & Noble, Colorado Governor’s Council of Physical Fitness, Rocky Mountain Sports, Old Chicago, and Noodles & Company.
