Sabin Elementary School To Celebrate Literacy Day, ‘Reading Is Fundamental’ State Champion Designation

Sabin Elementary School, 3050 South Vrain St., will celebrate Literacy Day (Wednesday, May 21). Students will dress as their favorite book characters. Assemblies at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (for afternoon kindergarten and preschool students) will honor 60 million-word readers. During the afternoon, students will visit other classrooms to see a variety of literacy projects and then return to their own classrooms for ice cream.

Sabin also will celebrate its recently-earned distinction of state champion for the Reading is Fundamental Community Reading Challenge. Almost 100 students received medals for reading extensively with their families and volunteers. The child who read the most books this year will have his or her name added to the Sabin Top Reader plaque that hangs in the main hall.

Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF) prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most. Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. RIF programs annually serve five million children of all ages, with a focus on those from birth to age 11.

For information contact the school, 303-936-3413.
