Gifted And Talented Education Names Two Educators Of The Year

The Denver Association for Gifted and Talented (DAG/T) presented awards for teacher and administrator of the year at its annual membership picnic on Sunday, May 18.

The DAG/T Teacher of the Year for 2002-2003 is Susan Holmes, teacher at Crofton Elementary School, 2409 Arapahoe St. Holmes taught in the DPS Highly Gifted Program at Columbine Elementary School and also at the in-school Gifted and Talented program at Palmer Elementary School. Current and former students, parents and colleagues were in attendance to honor Holmes for her many years of outstanding service to gifted and talented students.

The DAG/T Administrator of the Year for 2002-2003 is Pat Lopez, manager, DPS Psychological Services. Lopez has supported gifted education for many years, providing testing through her department for the Highly Gifted Program, helping to start the DPS Twice-Exceptional Program at Cory Elementary School and an ECE-K gifted program at Columbine and Edison elementary schools, supporting in-school and central gifted program and testing needs, and being a member of the DPS Gifted and Talented Education Advisory Council.

The Denver Association for Gifted and Talented is a membership organization for parents, teachers and administrators that supports gifted education in Denver and a part of the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented. For DAG/T information, contact Ann Chambers, 303-399-3350.
