The Asian Education Advisory Council is pleased to present the 18th Annual AEAC Awards ceremony Sunday, May 18 at the Marriott Hotel (I-25 and Hampden Blvd). The event will run from 9 – 11:30 a.m.
The program will include a keynote speech from Derek Okubo, Director of the National Civic League. Okubo oversees all operations and programs out of the national office and delivers technical assistance for local and state governments, school districts and communities. He’s involved with long-range planning, economic development, conflict resolution, apprenticeships, diversity, program development and consensus building.
Awards will be given for teacher service, paraprofessional service, cultural diversity, parent involvement, and to students at all grade levels. Twenty elementary students, 35 middle school students and 18 high school students will be honored. Eight of these students will be recognized with “highest honor” and “with distinction” status. Three additional students will be recognized for their special talents, one of these “with distinction.” The program will also include a Polynesian Dance and a story-teller.
The Asian Education Advisory Council was established by the Denver Public Schools Board of Education in 1985 and works to improve educational opportunities and to provide quality education for all students in general and Asian students in particular. The council consists of 14 community professionals, parents and educators.
