Mathcounts Results - Clarification

The Colorado Mathcounts competition Saturday (March 8) included 172 students from around the state, including six from Denver Public Schools. Initially, 1000 students from around the state participated in regional competitions.

A previous news release misreported the number of students who advanced to the statewide finals.

Hamilton Middle School‚s Kevin Black finished 44th, Henry Middle School‚s Jason Chiu finished 59th, and Morey Middle School‚s four-member team included Mike Nill (55th) and Ned Mills (86th).

Mathcounts is the only nationwide coaching and competition mathematics program designed to improve math skills among sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who are at a crucial stage in developing and sustaining math interest and ability. In Colorado, the program is made possible by the Professional Engineers of Colorado. The competition topics include algebra, probability, approximation, geometry and statistics.
