From 9:30 to 3:30 today, Lincoln Elementary School will hold an all day Health, Safety, Fitness and Pride Fair at the school, 710 S. Pennsylvania St. from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The goal of the event is for children to learn how to live healthy, safe and fit lives as well as to take pride in themselves, their school and their community. Children will rotate from station to station while learning from guest speakers including:
- Healthy Lungs, Patricia Yetman, Denver Alliance on Tobacco & Health
- Exercise and Nutrition, Tammy May, Washington Park Recreation Center
- Graffiti, Neddra Niblet, City of Denver
- Seat belt Safety, John Mumford, Craig Rehabilitation
- Recycling, Joyce, Tri R Recycle
- Neighborhood Safety, Officers Many Heyes and Mark Roggeman, DPD
- Healthy Heart, Intern Nurses, Regis College
- Dental/Hygiene, Natalie Sneed, Lincoln School Nurse
The school will also have guests during the lunch break from Denver Animal Control and the Denver Fire Department.
In addition, there will be displays on nutrition and healthy hearts. The Jump Rope for Heart Event will be held in the afternoon and all donations will be given to the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease. The children will learn a “5-A-Day” fruits and vegetables song to be sung at the PTSA meeting Thursday night and Whole Foods is donating fruit for all of the students. During the reading time, students will be able to choose from over 100 books all about health, safety, fitness and pride. |
