Schools to Compete in Annual Brain Bowl

The annual Brain Bowl Competition will be held at Thomas Jefferson High School, 3950 S. Holly St., on Saturday Feb. 22 starting at 8:30 a.m.

The fast paced competition will test students’ general knowledge on topics such as history, geography, government, economics, law, grammar, literature, fine arts, humanities, current events, math, science, and psychology.

The competition will include over 620 students from throughout Colorado and Casper, Wyo. Brain Bowl will consist of 124 teams competing in a written round and two-team head-to-head oral rounds where the five member teams attempt to be the first team to buzz in and give a correct answer. Students will be competing at three different levels - sixth, seventh and eighth grade.

All teams are scheduled to compete in the preliminary rounds in the morning. The final round of competition is scheduled to begin at 1:20 p.m. for sixth grade, 1:50 p.m. for seventh grade and 2:20 p.m. for eighth grade.

Denver schools participating are: Grant Ranch Elementary and Dora Moore, Gove, Grant, Hamilton, Hill, Kunsmiller, Morey and Place middle schools.

The public is invited to attend the competition, although they will not be able to view the written round test.

On Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday Feb. 22 highlights of last year’s Brain Bowl will be featured on a 60-second spot called “In Play Today.” Households with digital cable will be able to see “In Play Today” hourly on Nickelodeon GaS network. The segment will also air several times on the regular Nickelodeon network.
