Local Book Author To Address Centennial Elementary Students This Week During “Reading Is Fundamental”

Denver children’s book author Mary Hernandez will teach Centennial Elementary students about the writing process during the school’s three-day Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program Wednesday-Friday Feb. 19-21 as part of the district’s Million Words Campaign. Students will learn about the writing, editing and publishing process, make bookmarks for Argyle Nursing Home and receive a free book. Among the books Hernandez has written are: “Everything Is All Right Now;” “Sarah’s Oak Tree Swing;” and “How the Tornado Got Its Wind.” Founded in 1966, RIF develops and delivers children's and family literacy programs that help prepare young children for reading and motivate school-age children to read regularly. Centennial Elementary School is located at 4665 Raleigh St. For information, contact Marcella Ramirez, library media specialist, 303-433-6489.
