East High School Basketball Coach Nominated For National Award

Mark Perlmutter, assistant coach for the boys’ basketball team at East High School, was recently nominated for the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award.

“He works very hard and is well deserving of the award,” said Rudy Carey, boys’ basketball head coach at East High School. Perlmutter has been an assistant coach at East High School for 14 years and is a very important part of the basketball program, said Carey.

Of the thousands of coaches nominated for the award, a panel of blue-ribbon prep sportswriters will select 500 male and female winners. The judges will make their decisions based on criteria including knowledge, special contributions to the school and/or community and overall success. Winners will be announced May 1.

East High School’s next game will be Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. against George Washington High School.

The National Assistant Coach of the Year Award is a new and unique program that was created to honor assistant coaches at the college and high school level. With there being more than 350,000 assistant coaches nationwide the award is very selective and prestigious.
