Eidolon, a unique guitjo and cello duo, will join the Denver School of the Art’s (DSA) award-winning student orchestra for a Spring Benefit concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 9 at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood.
“We’re delighted to have Eidolon’s Joe Scott and Hannah Alkire join us,” said DSA Orchestra Director Frank Fyock. “Joe’s one-of-a-kind instrument, the guitjo, teamed with a cello will make for a truly special concert experience.” The guitjo is a double-neck, 14-string acoustic guitar that can sound like a piano or harp.
Considered Denver Public Schools’ premier orchestra, the DSA Orchestra is composed of students (grades six through 12) who will perform Mendelssohn’s “Sinfonia No. 3,” Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis,” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 3.” The event also will feature a Silent Auction to raise funds for the orchestra’s tour of Ireland and Scotland this summer.
Formed in 1998, Boulder-based Eidolon performs pieces influenced by Celtic, bluegrass, blues and Latin music in concert halls around the world.
Tickets are $14 adults/$8 students and senior citizens and can be purchased on-line at www.lakewood.org, at the door, or at Denver School of the Arts, 150 S. Pearl Street, Denver.
The Denver School of the Arts Orchestra was created in 1992 to provide talented young musicians from throughout metro Denver with the opportunity for artistic growth in a challenging orchestra environment. Founded in 1991, the Denver School of the Arts is a Denver Public Schools magnet school.
