2003 Distinguished Teachers Awards Nominees Announced

Denver Teachers’ Awards has announced the nominees for the 2003 Distinguished Teachers Awards.

They are: Regina Alcorn (Steele Elementary School), Cordia Booth (Gove Middle School), Leslie E. Dodge (Bromwell Elementary School), Lynette Hall-Jones (Whittier Elementary School), Jennifer F. Keel (Ashley Elementary School), Kathryn Leerssen (Bromwell Elementary School), D. Patrick MacDonald (Dora Moore Elementary School), Karla A. Nickerson (Ellis Elementary School), Gregg Painter (Denver School of the Arts), Eddy Reyes (Fallis Elementary School), Antje Sliger (Fred N. Thomas Career Education Center), and James S. Taylor (Montbello High School).

The Denver Teachers’ Awards will hold its annual Recognition Reception for all nominees on Thursday, Feb. 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the DPS administration building (900 Grant St.) The reception will be held in the Board Room on the first floor.

Ultimately, nine teachers will be selected to receive the Distinguished Teacher Award. They will be honored at a banquet on Friday, May 2 at the Denver Marriott Southeast.

Since 1957, Denver Teachers’ Awards (the Denver Chapter of Colorado Awards) has recognized the teaching profession annually by honoring distinguished teachers for excellence in teaching.

Nomination books are judged and scored by a committee of college professors. Final selections are based on the results of the committee’s scores. The Denver Teachers’ Awards Board of Directors does not do any judging. The Board, however, tries to ensure elementary, middle, and high school teachers are all represented in the final selection.
