Columbine Elementary School Fifth-Grader Will Introduce NBA Great Charles Barkley Tonight

Columbine Elementary School fifth-grader Royatta Jones has been selected to introduce former basketball star Charles Barkley tonight when he speaks in an event to benefit Junior Achievement in downtown Denver.

Barkley is the second of five speakers in the KeyBank Denver Distinguished Lecture Series at the Auditorium Theater.

Barkley was in the NBA for 16 unforgettable seasons and was named one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of All Time. He recently published a new book, “I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It,” and is known for speaking his mind on any topic, whether it is politics, athletes as role models, or the lack of minority control in sports.

Royatta has also introduced Reggie Rivers and Mayor Webb at past events.

“Royatta is an honest, compassionate, intelligent and confident young lady. Her smile can light up a room and her personality brings joy to those around her. Royatta is a shining example of a successful Columbine student,” said Kathy Swage, Success For All facilitator at Columbine.
