Handmade Ornaments From Smith Renaissance School Of The Arts Headed To Washington, D.C.

Students at Smith Renaissance School of the Arts have sent 50 handmade holiday ornaments to Washington D.C.

The bulbs, which were made by fourth- and fifth-grade students at Smith, will be displayed on the Colorado pine tree at the nation’s Capitol. The "Christmas Pageant of Peace" has been lighting the national Christmas Tree For 79 years. The American tradition also includes all fifty states, which are represented in the Capitol’s courtyard with their own unique tree. Smith students’ ornaments are the only ones displayed from Colorado. The ornaments will be on display Dec. 6 through Jan. 1.

Mr. Rob Roscini, the Visual Art teacher at Smith, directed the project and encouraged the students to express a theme entitled “Peace.”

Students chose to express this theme by creating their visions of peace through illustrations and colored translucent gel paper.
