December 13, 2002 is the nomination deadline for the elementary and middle school Highly Gifted Program in the Denver Public Schools for enrollment in the 2003-2004 school year.
December 13 is also the deadline to apply to attend three sites of this program as a high achieving student. Anyone who knows a student may nominate him or her; students may also nominate themselves.
Nomination forms are available at DPS schools, at the Gifted and Talented Education web site (http://gt.dpsk12.org), or by calling 303-405-8272. DPS will provide testing in January to all nominated students.
The Highly Gifted Program has been available in the Denver Public Schools for 17 years. It is designed for students in grades one through eight who have the extraordinary academic needs, abilities and academic potential found in the top one percent of the population. It is a full-day program at seven magnet sites that clusters students who need the support and challenge of a peer group with similar academic interests and abilities, a trained staff and an appropriately advanced and enriched curriculum.
The Highly Gifted Program at Crofton and McGlone elementary schools and Morey Middle School also accepts high achieving students by application on a space-available basis. Transportation is provided to the assigned site based on home address and district transportation policies. This program is housed in six elementary magnet school sites and one middle school magnet site:
- Edison (NW), 3350 Quitman St.
- Cory (SE), 1550 S. Steele St.
- Crofton (NE), 2409 Arapahoe St.
- Southmoor (SE), 3755 S. Magnolia Way
- McGlone (far NE), 4500 Crown Blvd.
- Gust (SW), 3440 W. Yale Ave.
- Morey Middle School, 840 E. 14th Ave.
