A team of three East High School students has transformed a hypothetical $100,000 into nearly $143,000 in just ten weeks, playing the Stock Market Game sponsored by the Post News Educational Services.
The hefty rate of return on their hypothetical investments earned the East team fifth place overall among 495 teams that competed among the high school age groups from around the state. In all, there were 1,100 teams of all age groups competing - and East finished sixth.
The East High School team included Shehawk Bryan, Marcus Ramos, and Jessica Clark.
The Stock Market Game enables participants to discover the risks and rewards involved in decision-making, the sources and uses of capital, and other related economic concepts.
During the ten-week contest, students invest the hypothetical $100,000 in Nasdaq, Amex, and NYSE-listed common stocks. They research stocks, study how the financial markets work, choose their portfolios, manage budgets, follow companies in the news, and make decisions on whether to buy, sell, or hold. Teams may also borrow another $100,000 if they wish.
East High School is located at 1545 Detroit St. Telephone: 303-394-8300.
