Debussy and Dvorak Performances Among Works At Denver School of the Arts Winter Concert Dec. 11, 12

The Denver School of the Arts (DSA) Orchestra, Band and Vocal Music departments will perform a two-stage Winter Concert Dec. 11 and 12 in St. Elizabeth’s Church on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. Performances each night will begin at 7 p.m.

The Dec. 11 concert will feature Debussy’s “Reverie,” performed by the A.M. Chamber Orchestra; Prokofiev’s “Sonata,” played by student pianist Isaac Holbrook; holiday music by the Four Square vocalists; Dvorak’s “American String Quartet,” by the DSA String Quartet; and works for Woodwind Quintet.

The Dec. 12 concert will include Saint-Saens’ “Concertpiece for Solo Horn and Concert Band,” performed by the Woodwind Ensemble; Haydn’s “Symphony #92,” performed by the DSA Orchestra; and performances by the DSA Chorale and Jazz Workshop Orchestra.

“The concerts are a great opportunity for the community to hear what Denver School of the Arts student musicians have to offer in a truly magnificent setting,” said Orchestra Director Frank Fyock. Admission is $5 per person.

The Denver School of the Arts, located at 150 South Pearl Street, is a Denver Public Schools magnet school for students in grades six through 12. The DSA music departments provide talented young instrumental musicians and vocalists from throughout Metro Denver with the opportunity for artistic growth in a challenging performing arts environment. In the fall of 2003, DSA will move to an expansive new campus at the current site of the Houston Fine Arts Center at Montview Boulevard and Quebec Street.
