Merrill Middle School “International Flare” Parent Night Dec. 4; Open House For The Community Dec. 5

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, students and faculty from Merrill Middle School will present “International Flare,” a parent night for parents of students in the school’s English Language Acquisition program. The program will run from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

From 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Merrill faculty and staff will present an explanation to parents about how the school’s magnet program for English Language Acquisition (ELA) works. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., students will model native dress from their home countries, including Senegal, India, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Vietnam and others. Students will also present native dances and songs from Vietnam, Mexico, Ethiopia, and others. Following the program, refreshments will be served, including a variety of international dishes provided by students’ families.

On Thursday, Dec. 5, Merrill Middle School cordially invites all fifth-grade students and parents to an Open House from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Merrill staff and faculty will present its new International School and Language program, which brings the diversity of this community into focus. Beginning next year, Merrill will offer multiple foreign languages and multi-cultural studies in all grades.

Interested students and their families are invited to come to the presentation, group-discussion, classroom visits, and enjoy refreshments.
