December 13, 2002 is the deadline for students interested in applying to one of the district’s secondary (middle and high school) magnet programs for the 2003-2004 school year.
Applications and information about each of the programs may be obtained directly from each magnet.
Magnet programs provide transportation (within district guidelines) and emphasize a particular style of learning or area of emphasis.
The deadline for elementary magnet programs will be January 31, 2003. That date will also be the deadline for parents and students seeking the best chance to apply under the district’s Choice program, which affords the chance for parents and students to apply to any school in the district on a space-available basis. A lottery is held for schools where there are more applications than seats available. After January 31, 2003 Choice applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Under the Choice program, transportation is not provided by the district.
Secondary magnet programs include:
- The Center for International Studies at West High School (951 Elati St.).
- The Computer Magnet Program – located at both Thomas Jefferson (3950 S. Holly St.) and North (2960 N. Speer Blvd.) high schools.
- The Denver School of the Arts (currently at 150 S. Pearl but scheduled to move to new facility at Montview Blvd. and Quebec St. for 2003-2004 school year).
