On Friday, Nov. 16 at 8:30 a.m., the new kitchen facilities at Steele Elementary School will be dedicated. The $1.75 million kitchen cafeteria addition adds 6,000 square feet of new space to the school, located at 320 S. Marion St.
The new space includes bright and colorful ceramic tile patterns in the lunchroom.
Denver Public Schools worked very closely with the Landmark Preservation Commission to insure that the exterior renovation was carried out in a sensitive and appropriate manner, given that Steele is listed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Steele project also includes replacement windows, a new parking lot, and a xeriscape landscape system. Some of the existing windows were restored, others were replaced with historical accuracy in mind.
