Montclair Elementary School’s Ready, Set, Read Program for Montclair Parents will be Thursday, Nov. 14

The first session in Montclair Elementary School’s Ready, Set, Read program for Montclair parents and their children will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Montclair Elementary School.

Parents with children at Montclair Elementary School are invited to attend the three-part reading workshop, sponsored by Montclair Elementary School and Community Resources, Inc., to learn more about reading techniques for children. Students are welcome to attend, too. A pizza dinner will be served and parents will attend the first session in the auditorium while volunteers read to children throughout the school.

The topic for parents for the first session is “Why Read Aloud?” After the presentation, each child will receive a new book and door prizes will be given out. Parents will also have the opportunity to try out the reading techniques they learned.

Two more sessions for Montclair parents and their children will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5 and Thursday, Jan. 16. The second session, “Helping your Children Learn to Read,” will teach parents reading techniques such as how to choose books that are suitable for their child’s reading level, said Montclair Literary Coach Barb Slenger.

The third session, “Choosing Quality Children’s Books,” on Jan. 16, will focus on how parents can help their children learn by choosing the right books. All three sessions of the workshop are free, however parents need to make a reservation with the school to attend.

Community Resources, Inc. is a non-profit organization, housed at Bradley Elementary School that has worked with Denver Public Schools for 30 years providing support to the district through several programs.

Montclair Elementary School is located at 1151 Newport Street. For more information on Ready, Set, Read, or to make a reservation, contact Montclair Elementary School at 303-333-5497. For information on Community Resources, Inc., contact Diane Hammer at 303-782-0975.
