Kids Voting Students to Vote on Election Day

More than 8,000 ballots will be cast Tuesday, Nov. 5 as students throughout Denver Public Schools finish their exploration of the election process with a trip to the voting booth. Their votes won’t count, of course, in the “real” elections, but the students will vote in their schools and the results will be counted. A team from Denver Public Schools Office of Assessment and Testing is standing by to tabulate the results as soon as they are delivered from school polling locations late Tuesday afternoon. In Denver, three high schools, five middle schools, and 13 elementary schools will participate. Among the scheduled voting activities tomorrow (Nov. 5) are the following:

  • At John F. Kennedy High School (2855 S. Lamar St.), students will vote in the main hall beginning at 7 a.m.

  • At Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School (19535 E. 46th Ave.), students will vote beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

  • At Smiley Middle School (2540 Holly St.), voting will take place in the auditorium beginning at 8:30 a.m.

  • At Castro Elementary School (845 S. Lowell Blvd.), voting will begin at 9:15 a.m.

Kids Voting Denver is part of a non-partisan national program Kids Voting USA. Kids Voting is a curriculum that is taught in the schools. The curriculum includes the electoral process, the importance of one vote, debating issues, learning about the candidates, and many other facets of the election season.
