| George Washington High School graduates Michael Graham and Samuel Morehead have been named to the Presidents Leadership Class at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
This placement is considered one of the highest honors bestowed on incoming freshmen. The George Washington High School faculty also has been commended by the university for aiding in the development of future leaders by creating a positive environment that encourages excellence.
Since 1972, the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) and its nationally recognized flagship program, the Presidents Leadership Class (PLC) have helped develop some of Colorado’s most talented undergraduate students.
Each year, 60 of the University of Colorado at Boulder’s most gifted students are selected to be PLC Scholars, according to the university’s web site. Each Scholar is awarded a $4,000-9,000 merit-based scholarship and receives four years of rigorous leadership training that fosters both intellectual and personal growth.
PLC’s four-year curriculum includes strong academic and experiential components designed to orient scholars to the theory and practice of leadership.
Scholars develop leadership skills through weekly lectures given by business and community leaders, discussion groups, group projects, community service, and local and international internships. Most importantly, PLC scholars join a small and diverse community of passionate students while having access to all of the resources available at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
