The Steele Elementary Choir received an Outstanding (Gold) Rating at a recent music festival held at Six Flags – Elitch Gardens.
The festival, hosted by FunME Events, was held on Saturday, Oct. 19th. The festival gives opportunities for music ensembles to compete for a rating in front of judges and an audience. The Steele Elementary School Choir received an Outstanding rating, which is the highest award given, with a total combined score of 93. The choir performed two works, “We Sing for the Children” by Mary Lynn Lightfoot and an arrangement of “This Old Man” by Greg Gilpin.
The Steele Elementary Choir, under the direction of Ms. Christine Dunning, is open to all students at Steele Elementary in grades 3 to 5. The choir currently includes 55 students, and rehearses twice a week. This is Ms. Dunning’s third year at Steele Elementary School (320 S. Marion St.). She is also the director of the Denver Public School’s Citywide Elementary Choir, and is a regular accompanist at area high schools.
