Three DPS Students Win Public Library Essay Contest

Denver Public Schools’ students took top prizes in the Denver Public Library essay contest based on the book, “Tuck Everlasting,” which is the subject of a new Disney movie, opening Friday.

The Central Library held a reading of the book and then promoted the contest. The topic of the essay was, “Would you choose to live everlasting life?”

The winners are:

  • First place, Molly Moss, seventh grade, Grant Ranch.
  • First runner-up, Lucy Westerfield, fourth grade, Odyssey Charter School.
  • Second runner-up, Zachary James Noel, fifth grade, McKinley-Thatcher.
  • Third runner-up, Laura Yeager, fifth grade, Most Precious Blood.

Molly received 50 passes to the screening of the movie tonight, a coupon for Anthony's Pizza and a $10 gift certificate for Capitol Hill Books. The runners-up received 20 passes to the movie screening. The local movie promotion company provided the prizes.

The essay contest was advertised through the public libraries and the schools. DPL librarians judged the 160 entries and awarded the prizes.
