“Flight Across America” Pilot Returns to Remington

Donna Miller, who was the pilot of a plane representing Colorado to commemorate the Sept. 11 tragedy, will re-visit the fifth grade students in Beth Kahmann’s class from 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20. She will visit classroom 201 at Remington Elementary, 4735 Pecos St.

Miller was one of two pilots chosen to represent the state of Colorado in Flight Across America, a nationwide event to honor the memory of those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

She flew her aircraft, with state flag aboard, in a parade of planes down the Hudson River, past ground zero and the Statue of Liberty. She presented the Colorado flag in a ceremony aboard the USS Intrepid, moored on the west shore of Manhattan.

Miller, a furloughed American Airlines pilot, spoke to the Remington students in August before her flight, and they presented her with homemade flags to take on her journey. In her return visit, she will talk about her experiences in New York as well as her journey across the nation.
